Legal awareness

Legal awareness, or legal literacy, is intended to empower the public by familiarizing them with the common things related to law. [1] Legal awareness promotes legal culture, increases people's participation in the making of laws. And progress towards the establishment of the rule of law. [2] [3]

Earlier, being 'legally literate' meant 'ability to write / read legal documents, opinions, judgments, laws etc.'. But now it means so much capacity related to law which is necessary to live a meaningful life in a legal society.

Some of the disadvantages due to legal illiteracy-

A legal illiterate person fears the law and runs away from it.
A legal illiterate person may inadvertently conduct contrary to the law or is unable to obtain assistance from the law.
A legally illiterate person is unable to use his legal rights effectively.

In fact, the litigant has nothing to do with qualified judges, well-equipped judicial chambers, scholarly advocate community and judicial ethics, but rather as a sick person who wants to be diagnosed with the disease as soon as possible. The legal saying is that ignorance of the law is not a defense. That is, as soon as a law comes into effect, the concept is established that every concerned person is aware of this law, while the practical aspect is different.

For example, it has become common to have an unknown vehicle accident on the roads. Such an incident has been provided as a "hit and run" under the Motor Vehicles Act and arrangements have been made to provide relief money to the aggrieved party, but often the benefit of this provision due to lack of knowledge of this provision. The person affected by the accident is unable to lift. Therefore, it is the main objective of the legal literacy program to make the public aware of the latest legal laws by publicity. According to the arrangement of the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987, the legal service program not only involves providing legal services to the vulnerable, but also informing the general public about the various legal provisions by setting up camps in remote and rural areas of India. Making literate is also an integral part of the Legal Services Program, known as Legal Literacy Program.
